An electronic picture frame can be a great device to have by your desk or bedside, or even as a gift that can be sent to a friend or relative. Today most pictures are printed digitally, and having a digital picture frames saves you from the trouble of having to print out new photos.
In addition, pictures can be changed easily at the click of a button, and some even change automatically. Photo’s from friends and relatives are now easier to display than ever, and can now be changed to suit days of the week, birthdays, or special events.
There are a large variety picture frames available, with differences ranging in size, quality, frames, and features. If you are choosing a photo frame for your desk, a normal 4×6 inch screen should be adequate. If you are looking to mount your frame on a wall, you may want to get a 12 inch screen or larger.
Photo’s can be transferred to the electronic picture frame through a variety of different ways, when choosing a digital photo frame, be sure that you get a transfer method that is suitable to your needs. Earlier digital frames used to connect through a serial or FireWire cable or through the use of a memory card.
Today, the standard for most digital fames is either USB or Wi-Fi. With USB, you will still bring the frame to your computer to transfer photos. If your digital frame has Wi-Fi networking capabilities, you will be able to send the photos from your computer right to frame without having to connect it. This is an essential feature for wall mounted frames as they can be a hassle to remove from the wall.
Most frames should support common picture formats such as JPEG, BMP, TIFF, GIF, PCX, and PNG to name a few. Some newer frames also come with a media center that allows videos and music to be played.
Small speakers can even be placed in the picture frames enabling music to be played through a jukebox. Having video capability can also be a great feature to have to show to friends and relatives.
Most videos will be accepted in MPEG, MP4, DiVX, or QuickTime formats, the manual on the box should specify which type of videos or music it can support.
Some electronic picture frame models come with automatic photo resizing software to help fit the photo to the ratio of the frame. Others may also come with an image filter system or a quality enhancer.
Some image filters may include black and white, painted textures, and many more. You may have to pay extra for these features, but they can make your life much easier.
Most digital frames have some sort of storage capacity on it. Depending on its size, it can fit between 100 photos all the way to thousands of photos and multiple video clips. Many memory cards can also be upgraded, so when you have the money, it may be good to do so.
